attended grades K-12 and graduated in 1962. After attending college in Kansas he attended the University of
Houston College of Optometry in Houston, TX. He graduated in 1969. He has continuously been in private practice in
Wichita, Kansas since that time. Like his father, Dr. Bumgardner has been a contributing member of the Kansas

good standing of the American Optometric Association and the Wichita Optometric Society, having been a past
president of that association. He also has an optometrist brother who graduated from the University of Houston in
1979 and a daughter who graduated from Nova Southeastern College of Optometry in Ft. Lauderdale, FL in 2001. She
now practices optometry in Oregon. He has a son who is an attorney in Wichita and two of the finest grandsons
possible.

computerization. He is also knowledgeable regarding nutrition, especially as it relates to the eyes. He is
licensed at the highest level an optometrist in Kansas can be. He is licensed to treat medical eye problems such
as glaucoma, severe dry eyes, ocular injuries, and medical emergencies. He actively co-manages patients with the
leading eye care specialists and eye surgeons in Wichita. While attending the University of Houston he spent a
year participating in a NASA program to research and design instruments and tests to monitor the vision and eye
health of astronauts in space.
Dr. Bumgardner’s personal interests include computers, gardening, grandkids, music, history, skiing, grandkids,
genealogy, movies, traveling, grandkids and outdoor activities among others too numerous to mention.
Bruce Boyle, OD
Dr. Boyle graduated from the University of Houston College of Optometry in 1996.
He has practiced with Dr. Bumgardner in Wichita since that time. During his years in Houston, Dr. Boyle had
special training in pediatric optometry and in his second year he received recognition as an outstanding
clinician. One of Dr. Boyle’s externships was spent under a corneal specialist/refractive surgeon. Recently Dr.
Boyle has expanded his practice to help patients with reduced vision due to eye disease that needs specialized
care. Dr. Boyle is very active in the Kansas Optometric Association. He recently completed a 2 year term as
President of the Wichita Optometric Society. At the last convention in Topeka Dr. Boyle was elected to serve on
the Board of Directors of the Kansas Optometric Association.
Dr. Boyle’s personal interests include travel and music (he has a guitar but
needs a little instruction). He’s an avid outdoorsman. He enjoys bird hunting with his Lab, Dave and his
Brittany, Shorty. Since he has no fishing dogs, usually this activity is enjoyed with friends. Dr. Boyle is a
member of several conservation and wildlife management organizations, including Pheasants Forever and Ducks
Unlimited. Exercise is important and often Dr. Boyle can be found working out at the gym - a new possible interest
may be martial arts.
Dr. Boyle originally came to Wichita when his family moved here in 1970. He grew
up on the east side and still has many of the same friends made back in grade school. Civic activities include
Albert Pike Masonic Lodge #303, the Midian Shrine, and the Scottish Rite. Dr. Boyle believes strongly in the
concept of civic duty and participates as he is able in many charitable causes. Building strong relationships with
patients and their families is the foundation on which Dr. Boyle hopes to build our practice.
